Design to market thinking: exploring the merits of strategic niche management in design thinking

Sustainability transitions require that sustainable innovations develop and scale-up. Two promising approaches contribute to this purpose. Design thinking (DT) focuses on the creative development of achieve desirable, feasible viable products. Strategic niche management (SNM) addresses how should be deployed market. At first sight, these concepts seem pursue a complementary mission, yet, academic literature has not explicitly addressed their nature. Therefore, paper gap by reviewing, proposing empirically exploring merits SNM can used in DT through workshop increase successful market implementation innovations. The study finds potentially helps design process (1) change preconditions for design, (2) create protected development, (3) establish (long term) commercial viability, (4) an innovation plan definition set testable propositions. concludes inclusion into substantially increases preparedness team coins term ‘Design Market Thinking’ integrated use DT.
